Using KanjiKit 2000 with Word 7.0/95

When using KanjiKit with Word 95, it is important to remember to have the KanjiKit Japanese Font selected when typing Japanese. If you don't have the Japanese font selected, it will appear overlapping on your screen (however, it will still print correctly).

You should also change a number of options in Microsoft Word 7.0/95 in order to use Japanese properly. From the Tools menu in Word, choose AutoCorrect... and remove the checkmark from the following boxes:
Correct Two Intial Capitals
Capitalize first letter of sentences
Capitalize names of days
Correct accidental usage of Caps Lock key
Replace text as you type

Click on OK and go back to the Tools menu in Word. This time, go to Options.... You will see a number of tabs. In the View tab, Nonprinting Characters section, remove all the checkmarks.

AutoFormat tab:
You will see two choices under the header Show Options For:. Click on the first choice, AutoFormat. Now look at the bottom section titled, Replace. Remove checks from the following boxes:
Straight quotes with smart quotes
Fractions with fraction characters
Symbol characters with symbols

Now go back up to the header Show Options For: and click on the second choice, AutoFormat As You Type. Look at the bottom section again, now titled, Replace As You Type. Remove checks from the following boxes:
Straight quotes with smart quotes
Fractions with fraction characters
Symbol Characters with symbols

Spelling tab:
Remove check from Automatic Spell Checking

Correcting the options above should prevent Word from inadvertently replacing Japanese characters while the AutoCorrect options are enabled. If there are still questions, take a look at the FAQ pages or contact PSP below.
