Using KanjiKit 2000 with Word 97

KanjiKit 2000 will automatically support Unicode with Word 97 so you will not need to manually select a Japanese font. However, if you want to use the DBCS Code fonts, you must remove the check mark next to Enable Unicode Input from the Tools menu in KanjiKit, restart Word 97 and manually select a DBCS Code font from the top of Word's font menu list.

In order for Word to support Japanese, you must change a number of options. From the Tools menu in Word, choose AutoCorrect..., find the AutoCorrect tab:
Remove any checks from all five boxes:
Correct Two Intial Capitals
Capitalize first letter of sentences
Capitalize names of days
Correct accidental usage of Caps Lock key
Replace text as you type

AutoFormat as you type tab:
In the Replace as you type section, remove checks from the following boxes:
Straight quotes with smart quotes
Fractions with fraction characters
Symbol Characters with symbols

AutoFormat tab:
In the Replace section, remove checks from the following boxes:
Straight quotes with smart quotes
Fractions with fraction characters
Symbol Characters with symbols

Now, click on OK and go back to Tools menu in Word. This time, go to Options.... You will see a number of tabs again. In the View tab, Nonprinting Characters section, remove all the checks. Next, click on the Spelling & Grammar tab:
