Optimal Setting Adjustment for Outlook 2000
- Go to "Tools" of Outlook Main window and select "Options..." Options window will appear
- Click on Mail Format tab
- Under "Message Format," Select "Plain Text" for "Send in this message format:"
- (It's up to your preference whether to put a check mark on "Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages")
- Click on "Settings..." button and Plain Text Settings window will appear
- Select "MIME" for "Message format" and clear the check mark on "Allow 8-bit characters in headers"
- Click on "OK" to close Plain Text Settings window
- Click on "International Options..." button
- For "Use this encoding for outgoing messages:," select "Japanese (JIS-Allow 1 byte Kana)"
- For "Use this encoding for unmarked received messages:," select "Japanese (Auto-Select)"
- Click on "OK" to close International Option window
- Click on "Fonts..." button, then "International Fonts" button
- Select Japanese from the large menu
- Select a Japanese font in "Propotional font" [e.g. UWJMG3 (SJIS), UWJGOT (SJIS), MS Mincho, or MS Gothic]
- Select a Japanese font in "Fixed width font" if available
- For "Encoding," select "Japanese (Auto-select)"
- Click on "Set as Default" button, and "OK" to close "Fonts"
- Under "Message fonts," choose a Japanese font for all three options [e.g. UWJMG3 (SJIS), UWJGOT (SJIS), MS Mincho, or MS Gothic]
- Click on "OK" to close "Fonts" window
- Click on either "Apply" or "OK" and close "Options" window
- When composing a message, go to "Format" and select "Encoding," then click on "Japanese (JIS-Allow 1 byte kana)"
